Wild Hedgehog Family - Monks Kirby - Summer, 2017

Mother & her babies

A success story !

This absolutely adorable wild Hedgehog family was one of the most loveliest success-stories in our charity-organisation's whole history - and holds dear the happiest of memories !

It was on a Sunday in July, 2017 when this family came to 'Chloe's Corner' to be cared for at the secret hospital facilities, as an emergency measure - as because from memory no other rescue service could be found to be active on that day.   They were referred by the BHPS.

They were a mother hedgehog and her whole litter of babies - known as "hoglets" - who were all rescued from otherwise certain death, when their original home garden location in Monks Kirby, was about to be completely bulldozed !

The babies were still suckling from their mother, as they were not yet fully weaned.   Protocol usually tells us that if a hedgehog family is alive and not in actual distress, and the babies have not been either orphaned / or abandoned - then under no circumstances must they be disturbed and be left well alone !

However, as because this family were in immediate danger, then it was decided that the best course of action would be to actually re-locate them together to a safe place.

The best part of about this story is, that ALL of these hedgehogs survived !  This was such a success, that their story made the local press, later that same year !
